RAR rims

The performance of the wheel mostly depends on the choice of the rim. Situated at the most external diameter of the wheel, the rim is the component playing the biggest role in the wheel inertia, its dynamical properties.
To explain easily, a high performing wheel, requiring the least amount of energy, is equipped with a light rim.
The weight however does not mean everything. Stiffness, aerodynamics, impact resistance, vibrations absorptions are as important for absolute optimization.
Three of our RAR creations are spinning through ultra light, high modulus carbon fibre rims. One is alloy based.

 

Aluminium rim

Tempo is 27mm deep aluminium rim based. Versatile, it makes the accelerations easy thanks to its 430g rim, the stiffness coming from its construction. Thin, it optimizes the aerodynamics and the vibration absorptions.
For highest reliability, stability, it is manufactured through a double sleeve joint. This feature balances the weight of the valve and makes the braking very smooth.

 
 
 
 
 

 

 

 

Carbon fibre rims

- Our carbon creations own a technology rarely met in bicycle's world.
Already victorious during the Tour de France through Reynolds ant Agritubel team, the rims wore the yellow jersey several days in 2008. 100% made from very high modulus carbon in the United-States, their weight to lateral stiffness ratio remains is unbeatable. Svelt leaves the mold with 230g for 32mm, Optimal is 285g for 46mm !

The specific layup schedule in the structure is designed to offer different properties depending on the axle they are felt. This anisotropy give the rim a damping effect without compromising lateral stiffness, acceleration, feedback, and overall rim strength. This damping effect increases the long distances performance as it relieves the lumbars and joints.

When hard braking the rim heats up. The resin holding the carbon fibres together loses integrity and the brake track tend to deform under the clincher pressure.
When raining, the water makes a layer on the braking surface. The brake pad is unable to catch the rim correctly, and the rider can hardly modulate speed. This "aquaplaning" phenomenon causes lack of security.

From a resin able to withstand to high temperatures, the brake track is reinforced with very high modulus carbon fibre, ultra stiff, insensible to the rise of temperature. Moreover, the internal of the clincher rims features a widened clincher bed, extremely strong, which resists to high pressures. Micro-asperities make the braking very powerful even under the rain. They ensure the brake pad grabs the rim whatever the riding conditions.

The RAR always provide a constant strong braking. The rims are extremely light, with no limit of pressure, neither for tubulars, nor for clinchers, and insensible to long brakings. In short, the rims feature a concentrate of technology for anyone. These elixir are the quintessence of our wheels.
